U.S Army
The U.S Army was established June 14, 1775. The Army was started by ten companies of rifelmen. These rifelmen were authorized by Continental Congress to serve for one year. George Washington was appointed Commander and Cheif of the Continental Army.The Army is the oldest U.S military service. There are approximately 76,000 officers and 401,000 enlisted members in the active duty Army.
The role of the Army is to protect the United States by way of the ground. This includes the use of troops, tanks, artillery, attack helicopters, and tactical nucular weapons. The Continental Army was established to confront the envading British troops near Boston, Massachusetts. The British troops were well equipt and well trained and in order for the U.S. to stand a chance the revolutionaries had to re-organize their forces. Today the U.S Army is the largest military branch.
Multiple important events occured throughout the U.S Army's history. One event includes the start of the Corps of Engineers June 16, 1775. Another important event was the start of the special forces April 9, 1987. The Army Medical Department was established July 27, 1775. Aviation (light planes and rotary wing aircraft) April 12,1983.

Famous Battles of the U.S Army:
-Battle of the Little Bighorn, a battle between the U.S Army and a band of Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors defeated the U.S Army.
-Battle of the Bulge, a battle between the U.S Army and Germany. This was the most bloody battle of WWII, the U.S Army defeated Germany.
-Iwo Jima, battle between the U.S armed forces and Japan. This was a battle in which the U.S were trying to captured the Island of Iwo Jima. The U.S armed forces defeated Japan.

U.S Navy
On October 13, 1775 the U.S Navy was born. The first ships in the Navy were two vessels armed with ten carriage guns, as well as swivel guns. These vessels were manned by crews of only 80 men. The Continental Congress sent out these vessels. The Navy was established to be sent out on a cruise of three months to intercept transports carrying supplies to the British army in America. Today the role of the Navy is to protect the United States waters.
The Navy is seperated by two periods, the "old" period and the "new" period. The old period was respected however was not as strong as opposing forces. The "Old Navy" was responsible for destroying ships carrying supplies to the British Army. Eventually the U.S Navy became one of the largest and most technologically advanced in the world. Today, the U.S Navy is considered the superpower of the world.
October 13 1775 is know as the start of the U.S Navy. The U.S Navy became the largest in the world by the 1920s. The Attach on Pearl Harbor, December 7 1941, was an attach led by Japan that started the largest naval battle in history. In 1978 Ronald Reagan instituted a a modern 600 ship Navy.

Air Force
On September 18, 1947 president Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947 establishing the Air Force as its own military branch. The Air Force is responsible for the safety of the air as well as space. Origionally the Air Force was part of the Army and was responsible for protecting ground troops and conducing bombing raids. Today the Air Force is responsible for not only protecing the ground troops but also flying missions all around the world. Today the U.S Air Force is accepted as the most technologicly advanced air force in the world.
The most important event in U.S Air Force History is when it became its own military branch September 18, 1947. A second important event was in 1918 when the first major U.S. aviation combat force was created. A third event was the atomic bombings of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan in 1945. Finally another important event was when the U.S Air Force was recognized as the most advanced air force in 2008.
